Letters to the EditorOrwell No Anarchist
David Martin, in responding to my article on the Laborite Jim Maloney, asserts that, in contrast, George Orwell "was an anarchist". But this claim is incorrect. Orwell fought in Spain under the auspices of an established British political party - the Independent Labour Party - which he joined in 1938. He later left the ILP because of policy differences, not because he was ever an anarchist. STEPHEN HOLT
