NewsLabour Wings to Meet in Macquarie Street
New Upper House MP Ian West MLC, will host a half day Workers' Forum at NSW Parliament House on "Labor in Government" from 9.00am to 1.00pm on Thursday 12th April 2001.
"To protect working people and their families in the face of rapid change, and to see that working people and their families are guaranteed a say in how this society is run. That is our goal as a Labor Government - and it's your goal as a trade union movement." Premier Bob Carr's comments at the recent NSW Labor Council AGM encapsulate the aspirations of Forum organisers. Government Ministers John Della Bosca, Andrew Refshauge and Sandra Nori will speak on issues relating to their portfolios and the NSW Government. Other ALP MPs will be in attendance. Union panellists will include Michael Costa, Sandra Moait, Andrew Ferguson and Annie Owens. A third session will involve NSW ALP officers who'll discuss strategies to win the Federal election. Union representatives, research and industrial officers are invited to be part of the Forum - to further Unions' understanding of Government functions and Parliamentary processes. Numbers are limited. Unions should indicate their intention to attend by completing the attached registration form and forwarding it to either the NSW Labor Council or Ian West's office.
