NewsFriends of Currawong Plan: Borrow To Grow
The Labor Council would be asked to borrow $1.2 million to build new faciltiies at Currawong as part of the Friends of Currawong's proposal to make the site commercially viable.
Under the plan, the money would be spent upgrading Currawong to provide extra domitory-style accommodation that would be leased out for school groups for environmenal study camps. They believe their proposal is superior because it is more in tune with the purposes and principles behind the holiday camp. Friends of Currawong member Barry Cotter says he is confident that, with proper marketing, the propsal would generate three times the income currently being reaped by the site. "One million dollars in the grand plan of things for Labor Council is not much," Cotter says. "We say that $1 million is insignificant because over time there will be asset growth and it becomes a miniscule amount."
