NewsMobile Phones Health Warning
Workers will be warned to use mobile phones only as a last resort under a new safety policy being drafted by the communications workers union.
Under the policy, being developed by the CEPU, members have been urged to take a precautionary approach to mobile phone use. They are advised:
" Unlike most consumer safety approaches, the phone sellers do not have to prove that their product is safe. The onus is on the public to prove that it is unsafe. " A number of studies are now commencing or under way (July 2000). These will take 2-4 years to complete. The results are not expected to give a final answer, but they should clarify many questions, the CEPU says.
