Letters to the EditorSilence on the GST
The GST is starting to look like a savage blow to the future living standards of ordinary people. It seems that the Unions have decided to cop it sweet, though. Where is the opposition to this con job of a "tax reform" likely to cost wage earners $50 a week? The GST is unfair and will impact most damagingly on the poor and the old. Should't there be some Union opposition, even at this late stage? What good is it to fight for years for a few more bucks and then have it all taken away (as it will be) by the price increases on all the necessary purchases and services? I'd like to see some discussion about this unfair tax. Alf Liebhold
