Dear editor I noticed that a recent column in the Jakarta Post described John Howard' s attitude to Asia as being the same as "...a Nineteenth Century English greengrocer studiously displaying a benign neglect for his neighbours..." Not a bad description. Compared to John Howard (aka The Royal Gerbil), Menzies must have to looked like one of those elusive "Reds under the bed" or one who couldn't wait to throw open the gates of Australia to the so-called dreaded "Yellow Peril". Perhaps Howard is some form of fossil that has been revived through cloning like in Jurrassic Park - a Premenzies Australis perhaps G McAuliffe PERTH
