Westpac has been forced to delay plans to send up to 500 jobs to India as community anger grows about the off-shoring of Australian jobs.

Qantas is even further advanced on plans to send jobs to the sub-continent, with two Indian companies short-listed to take over the airline�s IT functions.

It�s A Secret: Ballot Boosts ABC Campaign
Organisers of Thursday�s nation-wide strike at the ABC would like to issue a special thankyou � to none other John Winston Howard, architect of the IR changes designed to weaken unions and undermine working conditions.

Where unions could previously organise a strike on the strength of a show of hands they must now hold a secret ballot of members, a strategy designed to undermine union solidarity. In this case, it backfired.  [full story]

Brake WorkChoices, NSW Urged
The Iemma Government is facing pressure to pull the pin on a brake manufacturer forcing its workers onto AWAs.

Western Sydney-based Futuris Brakes, which supplies brakes to state-owned corporation RailCorp, is refusing to negotiate a collective agreement with its workers. [full story]

City or the Bush? It�s Telstra�s Call
A change in the definition of what makes a rural job has led to pay cuts of $25,000 per annum for more than 100 Telstra sub-contractors.

Under the new guidelines, �regional work� is now defined as being within 30 kilometres of a town centre rather being based on the services available at the work site, such as guttering and street lamps. [full story]
