Howard's Advocate Fesses Up
John Howard's workplace point-man is green-lighting AWAs that deny Aussies overtime, penalty rates and public holidays, sight unseen.

Employment Advocate, Peter McIlwain, told Senate Estimates he had registered more than 6000 individual contracts, in the first month of WorkChoices, without checking their content. [full story]

Cowra - Work Slaughter Legal
Cowra Abattoir has restarted its stalled bid to cleaver workers rights, armed with a government report that rules its tactic of sacking staff and telling them to reapply for lower paid jobs is legal.

Those talks have already stalled as the company, with Waterfront War mastermind Paul Houlihan in charge, attempts a radical overhaul of the tally system which will see workers paid an extra $1 per hour for killing hundreds of extra animals a day. [full story]

You're Killing Us - BHP Charged Again
Three criminal charges have been laid against BHP Billiton in relation to last year's death of a father of two who suffocated on mud and dust, 500 metres below its Olympic Dam uranium mine.

The South Australian Industrial Relations Court laid the counts, less than a year after an independent inquiry warned the minerals giant its AWA-based strategy impacted on safety standards. [full story]

The Beaconsfield mine, where Larry Knight lost his life, spent years running the Minerals Council of Australia�s anti-union agenda.

Warehouse Pushes the Envelope
A Sydney law firm alleges a union organiser applied �duress� by warning members an AWA would cost them $50 a week.

The threat was delivered as the federal court ruled employers could make promotion, and even employment, conditional on signing individual agreements. [full story]

Independent Schools Push Class Warfare
The Association of Independent Schools is plotting to have unions expelled from NSW schools.

Just days after Sydney's Newington College backed down from plans to have staff re-apply for their jobs, the peak body admitted it has been doling out advice on how schools could enforce non-union workplace agreements. [full story]
