Public Transport A Bit Rich


The Government seems pretty keen on increasing the costs of public transport. The latest increases, the corporatisation of ferries and those new links for $65 a week, are just examples. How can we encourage people to stop driving to work if public transport is so expensive? I am used to catching trains and they are without fail always late or cancelled, dirty and crowded and i pay $40 pw for the privilege. Now in 2003, for the first time ever i have discovered it is cheaper to drive. So now i drive to work, which is a real shame but its cheaper and more reliable. I know of many others doing the same. Given the preference i would choose a reliable affordable system. What are our taxes paying for?
